As a talent, whether you are at a photo shoot or a trade show booth, it’s important to market yourself in front of the potential future employers through networking. You are professional, responsive, educated, punctual and hard-working in the entertainment industry, there is no reason not to get your name out there.
Sometimes, to better market yourself, it’s not necessarily about what you know about the products or industry, it’s more about who you know and what relationships you acquire.
Making an imprint on everybody that you meet is going to make your career sky rocket.
Staying stress-free and being the absolute best for the brands you are representing will have an immense and life changing impact on your future jobs.
Word of Mouth
Have you ever said “Yes, I know someone just right for that job.” Well, those words could land you your next gig. Make sure you speak to others with the utmost respect and present yourself with poise. When you are on set or working at an event, always have a positive attitude towards each person that you come across. You could be speaking to your future employer and not even know it. Be humble, but be confident and make your audience feel comfortable approaching you. Coming off too cocky or know-it-all can create a negative first impression. In an event atmosphere, networking is what it is all about. Marketing execs, exhibitors, casting directors and producers talk to each other so be the talk of the show in a positive way.
Body Language
Your body language can affect the way your audience perceives you. If a friend of your employer is walking by or approaching your work site and they see you with your arms crossed with a smirk on your face, guaranteed they will contact your employer and ask why they hired you. You could also possibly lose a client that way. When you perform at an event, stand tall with your shoulders back and radiate with a huge smile. Present yourself having purpose, being positive, and being focused; the people you come across will view you as just that. From afar your future employer will look at you and think, “Wow, I would hire this model again no doubt!” It could be
your first time being a brand ambassador or a promotional model, but that does not matter. Creating trust within your boss and everybody in the industry will have people asking you to represent their brands!
Networking
Believing you are the brand will make your exude a powerful energy. Create an atmosphere for the live events, photoshoot set or the trade show booth you are working. This will generate a buzz and attendees will be stopping by just to see what everyone is raving about. Network while you work! Talking to your audience and getting personal will force people to want to know more about you and what you do. If an attendee or vendor hands you his or her business card, take it and follow up with them. You have the ability to talk and connect with whomever you wish to. Be personable and approachable because in the long run you will be utilized by that company or another. Working your first photo / video shoot, trade show or live event is the beginning of your career. Once you continue working year after year your name will get around so make a proper impression onto others.
You could know everything about how a shoot project or event works, but if you present yourself just the right way, you could really make a name for yourself. Powerful people attend these functions so remember that the next time if you are hired for a gig. Walk tall and proud, exude confidence, but be humble. Captivate your audience and draw them in with your smile and how you carry yourself. Talk to as many people as you can. Don’t let them leave without remembering your name. It’s not what you know about the industry but who you know within the business that will move you up the ladder of success in the entertainment industry as a performing talent.
